ACP enlists PMP, Blue Star, Geon and Offset Alpine to make print buyers love magazines

The magazine has been overseen by ACP creative director for advertising Carolyn Innis and will be distributed to advertising agencies across Australia to illustrate what is possible with print.

Techniques on show include tip-ons, textured varnish, pull-outs and, perhaps most impressive, a 3D spread complete with its own set of 3D glasses.

Other printers that have produced pages include Caxton Web, Webstar, Into Print, Megacolour, Geon and STI Lilyfield.

Each printing house produced a section of the publication, which was pulled together by ACP’s production team and bound as a magazine.

Suppliers have also pitched in. Paper and finishes have been provided by the likes of Spicers Paper, AllKotes, Gold East Paper, CellMark, UPM, Burgo Group and Dagaz Paper.

Some 10,000 copies of the publication have been produced and will be distributed over coming months.

Ian McHutchison, ACP’s general manager for production services, told ProPrint that the goal was to create something that was easy and affordable to recreate for advertisers.

“There were a lot of ideas that came up from the creative team that we could do, but it got down to the practicality and at the end of the day this is meant to look like a magazine and not a book,” said McHutchison. “All of these elements can be done without huge production costs.”

From this month, ACP will also target consumers as it enters the second phase of the I Love Magazines campaign with a competition to win $5,000 cash daily by purchasing one of 22 ACP titles.

Customers will be able to enter the campaign by submitting an SMS or phoning in a unique code printed in some 22 ACP titles. Newsagents that sell a winning magazine will pocket $1,000.

ACP Magazines managing director Phil Scott said: “This extension of ACP’s successful I Love Magazines trade campaign presents a fantastic opportunity for newsagents to build customer loyalty and drive magazine sales.

“We are excited about working with our newsagent partners on what is ACP Magazines’ largest-ever single investment in a newsagency promotion.”

ProPrint will publish an analysis of the I Love Magazines campaign in the March issue.
