Australian registrations triple for global print ‘search engine’

Printingwatch.com had 32 Australian registrations as of 30 June, said chief executive Sajid Hussain.

Hussain told ProPrint in January, soon after the website's launch, that Printingwatch.com wanted to recruit more than 300 Australian printers this year.

It had 11 Australian registrations at the time; some of the new recruits include Officeworks, Sydney firms Aviva Print and Umax Print, Melbourne printers Composite Colour and Kanga Print, and Brisbane-based BKM Print and Space Print.

Printingwatch.com allows printers to market their services for free. Buyers can compare prices and place orders without having to register.

The service has expanded from Australia, the US, UK and Canada into Ireland, China, Singapore and the Netherlands, said Hussain.

"The support from the print community is growing. We are planning to participate in local trade shows to bring in awareness so printing companies can take benefit of our services," he told ProPrint.

"The most important aspect is the growth in the number of products and services on offer, which has tripled in the past three months alone, which means that existing printing companies are realising the potential and taking interest in adding and feeding their printing quotes and price data more frequently.

"This has also helped our website extend its presence in Google search results, which ultimately boosts the traffic that we are getting."

Hussain said 83% of sales had come from five sectors: business cards 33%, flyers 16%, brochures 15%, letterheads 11% and presentation folders 8%.

He also told ProPrint that customers had responded positively to the Printingwatch.com model, with repeat visitors now representing about 30% of traffic and the length of the average site visit increasing.
