Big Print Typo’s new owners buy iGen 150 to bring work back onshore

Educational publisher OCA Group announced on 29 May that it had acquired the struggling Melbourne printer and renamed it BPO Print. The deal is believed to have occurred in March.

OCA Group director Mark Pettitt said there were no plans for lay-offs at BPO Print. “The only changes that are going to be made are investments into upgrading equipment and broadening the offering it currently has,” he told ProPrint.

“One of our businesses, BPO Intelligence, currently produces around 90% of its material off-shore. Currently some of these materials are freighted back to Australia. We will be bringing some of that business into BPO Print and Australia.”

Pettitt said BPO Print had “already purchased a lot of cutting-edge and industry-leading equipment”.

ProPrint understands that the firm installed a Xerox iGen 150, Fuji Xerox Color 1000, Plockmatic Pro 30 bookletmaker and Oris colour management software in May.

Pettitt said BPO Print would use the new kit to push into cross-media and variable data.

“We are moving the business from predominantly production solutions into a communications solution for our customers. That includes digital campaigns integrated with personalised print,” he said.

“To put it simply, we are going to offer world-leading, tailor-made marketing strategies for customers that use both print and digital methods to target their clients.

“We believe our purpose is to get the right communication to the right people at the right time in order to get the desired response for our clients. Print, if done correctly and combined with database marketing, is an integral part of this.”
