Blue Star enjoys million-dollar success with ABS and Treasury accounts

The group’s ACT print boss, Ian O'Connor, said Blue Star would print forms and publications for the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and also provide mailhouse services.

The three-year contract includes two one-year options and may also involve census work, which could turn it into a multimillion-dollar account, he told ProPrint.

O'Connor said the win was due to "old-fashioned customer service combined with our ability to deliver quality-assured products, within minimal timeframes, under secure conditions".

He said a key part of Blue Star's offering was the upgrade of the Canberra site that occurred in 2011.

"We've redeveloped our production facility and we've got what we believe is the most modern equipment designed to service the government's specific needs."

Blue Star has also joined Paragon Printers and Opus Group firm Canprint Communications in being awarded $600,000 of Department of Treasury work.

Treasury has contracted the printers to handle general printing, production and distribution services during 2013 and 2014.

The documents involved will be things like reports, papers and explanatory memoranda for parliament.

Treasury has valued the contracts at $200,000 each. However, ProPrint understands that the printing will be handled on an on-demand basis, which means no guarantee has been given about volumes.
