CCL and Multi-Color top Label Awards

CCL Labels has taken out top prize at the 2014 Label Awards while world champions Collotype and Multi-Color collected six of the 11 golds between them.

The two industry mainstays dominated the field at the ceremony in Melbourne with Multi-Color’s Queensland and South Australia branches winning four golds and Collotype Labels SA winning two.

Multi-Color’s ‘beef casserole with pearl barley’ won for best booklets and coupons and also won its category at the World Label Awards in Chicago in September and announced earlier this month, as did its Lite ‘n Easy Sesame Beef Noodles for flexo colour process.

Collotype won gold in the digital printing for wine and spirits category for its Montepulciano wine label, which also won at the World Label Awards.

CCL’s Best in Show work was for combination printing of wine and spirits for its Rymill The Dark Horse cabernet sauvignon wine label, which earned highly commended at the world awards.

QLM, Supa Stick, Jamesprint, and Signature Labels also picked up gold awards, with Signature winning at the World Label Awards.

Gold winners are automatically entered into the World Label Awards and how they fared was announced at last night’s presentation. More than half the Australian entries won their category.

Numerous categories, particularly offset and screen printing based, once again had no entries but the organisers are leaving them in to encourage companies using the techniques to enter so the Australian industry can be recognised for its quality, and have more chances to win global awards.

Next year’s awards will also include the new Apprentice of the Year Award after QLM announced at the ceremony that it will give a $2000 prize to the winner.
