Computershare sees best-ever results from print arm

NRMA talked up Computershare Communication Services for complex variable-data printing of flysheets for its 2.3 million-circulation customer magazine, Open Road. The flysheets were produced on Australia’s only InfoPrint 5000 inkjet lines.

The firm has worked with NRMA for 13 years, but won this new line of work because NRMA found its existing supplier was unable to match the level of personalisation.

According to Computershare, benefits included greater personalisation in full-colour while reducing the costs of NRMA carrying pre-printed base stocks. It also increased turnaround time, with 1.6 million flysheets produced a week ahead of deadline.

Silvana Schettino, head of relationship marketing at NRMA Motoring & Services, said: “When we first started the project, we had faith in our relationship with
Computershare and trusted them to do a good job.

“But we were blown away with the variable colour capabilities and their ability to produce the flysheets so quickly.”

Computershare Communication Services managing director Peter Milburn told ProPrint that the NRMA job was indicative of the firm’s sophisticated inbound and outbound communications offering.

“From a customer point of view, they were happy with the speed and accuracy and volumes but what they were really buying into was the underlying strength of the platform it was sitting on – the DNA that runs through the organisation.”

The news comes as Computershare’s Australian & NZ revenues increased 6.6% to US$357.4m (A$338.2m) while EBITDA was up 3.9% to US$87.4m.

Worldwide, Computershare Communication Services posted half-year revenues of US$87.5m, its best six months since buying QM Technologies in 2008. The Australia & NZ market was the division’s strongest performer, with full-year revenues of US$131.4m.

The annual report said: “Good Communications Services client wins in late 2011 should positively impact 2012.”

Milburn said the company was “certainly having great success in niche markets in the financial sector”.

“We are working in large financial companies with different types of communications. The reason why we are successful is because our heritage is in managing really large tranches of data and that is enabling us to create business efficiencies for organisations,” added Milburn.
