Display printer slashes turnaround times with new press

Retail specialist printer Sumo Visual Group has slashed its turnaround times and taken on more work after installing a new HP Scitex FB10000 Industrial Press.

The digital-only full service visual solutions firm says it had been so swamped with demand that it had to turn away jobs because its machines could not accommodate the volume of work, prompting it to upgrade to a faster press at its Melbourne plant.

Sumo national sales director Gary Fawcett says the 10-year-old company bought the press to reassure its clients that it could help them meet the tight deadlines crucial to the success of their campaigns.

“As a business, we realised we couldn’t continue to grow at the same pace without a high speed press,” he says.

The company says the HP Scitex is generating turnaround times up to four times faster than its existing portfolio of digital printers, and can turn around a job of 1000 B1 sheets (1500 x 3000mm) in less than two hours.

Retailers comprise 70 per cent of Sumo’s customers and often need last-minute changes to their marketing and in-store branding messages because of stock changes, making flexibility and speed critical for their numerous fast turnaround, short run jobs.

Fawcett says, “We were lacking the workhorse that would empower us to say yes to customers asking for an entire campaign, which could include several hundred banners, posters, signs and point-of-sale displays, within two days.

“The HP Scitex FB10000 ticks all the boxes – high speed, power and throughput, plus great image quality.”

Sumo also invested in new prepress software and cutting and finishing equipment to work alongside the new press.

The company says the new equipment has dramatically improved workflow and increased efficiency, significantly reducing the time taken to deliver printed products to customers.

Sumo operates from Sydney and Melbourne offers complete display solutions for manufactured signage, large format print, digital signage and point of sale displays for quick service restaurants, retail, shop design, events, exhibitions, property hoardings, and billboards.
