Fuji Xerox Australia launches Dealer Sustainability Program

Participants record initiatives against objectives over the year, including electricity, fuel and water consumption, carbon emissions and paper purchased against revenue generated.

They also record the number and weight of devices recycled, land-filled or re-sold, and the amount of waste generated, including its recyclable percentage.

Clients who have already signed up the program, which is open to all Fuji Xerox Australia dealers, include Fuji Xerox Business Centres (XBC) in Townsville and Tasmania.

“Our vision is to provide our dealer network, many of whom are SMEs without designated sustainability staff, or the resources to design environment programs, with a framework and support to address the increasingly important environmental expectations of their customers,” said Amanda Keogh, Sustainability Manager, Fuji Xerox Australia.

Certificates of participation are given out at the close of the year when dealers have submitted their reports and demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance.

The certificates come in the form of an office plaque and electronic logo to use for marketing purposes.

Fuji Xerox Australia will reward the best performing dealer each year. The winner receives an environmentally themed weekend away for two in the state in which they live in Australia.

“As a dealership we have been striving to do the right thing in many areas for some time, but this program gives this matter a new focus and will encourage us to go the extra yards,” said Roy Currie, director, XBC Townsville.

“It’s a credit to Fuji Xerox Australia’s sustainability initiatives that we can be supported in this way,” he added.

Bob Wylie, project manager XBC Tasmania said even though his company has always been environmentally responsible, it now has specific targets to measure progress.

“Our clients want to know they are partnering with environmentally-sound suppliers, and it is becoming a more important selection criteria on their part,” he said.

Areas where dealers can make a difference include:

Responsibility for end of life equipment and parts: by identifying a local recycling solution for responsible disposal of end of life devices; the return of all parts, cartridges and drums to the Fuji Xerox Eco-Manufacturing Centre.

Waste management: implement recycling arrangements for paper, cardboard, pallets, glass and aluminium, including general office waste and waste generated through warehouse activities.

Energy management: identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption in the office and warehouse. Includes installing energy efficient lighting, turning off equipment overnight and at weekends.

Paper management: buy sustainably sourced paper for office use. Look for PEFC / FSC / SFI certification and / or purchase paper with recycled content. Set print devices to double-sided.

Waste management: install water efficient office measures in offices, such as low-flush toilets and fitting low-flow taps and showerheads.

Fuji Xerox Business Centres have already signed up to the Dealer Sustainability Program, including North Parramatta, Batemans Bay, Albury, Bundaberg, Geelong, Maryville, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Cairns, Darwin, Adelaide, Hobart, Townsville, Coffs Harbour, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Orange, Warragul, North Mackay, Bunbury and Papua New Guinea.
