It’s all yellow for Ricoh

Printers looking to provide added value solutions to their clients and move into new areas will be taking a close look at the PacPrint stand of Ricoh, and specifically its new Neon Yellow product. For it is at PacPrint that Ricoh will have the Australian launch of the Neon Yellow fifth colour for its Pro C7100x series digital colour printers.

In launching Neon Yellow, Ricoh aims to help printers to produce eye-catching value-added print. The new colour, developed for the fifth colour station on the Ricoh Pro C7100x series colour cut sheet digital production press, targets the need to differentiate printed products in markets such as magazines, direct mail, retail, marketing material, and point of purchase. It will also enable printers to enter new markets such as security and events.

Henryk Kraszewski, senior product and marketing manager – Production Print at Ricoh, says the new toner reflects a commitment on the part of the company to maintain support for its customers by placing cutting edge technology at their disposal. He says the Neon Yellow has a number of applications for Australian print companies to take advantage of. He says, “Neon Yellow expands the colour gamut, enhances images and can be used as a solid or highlight or graphic colour.”

In addition it is reflective under UV light, which opens up a host of promotional, invitation and security print applications, such as wristbands for events, to print business that use the Neon Yellow. The effect could also be used as a security feature, the company said, because the toner is very difficult to copy. So it could be used to print admission tickets and wristbands or other event industry applications that only light up under UV light.

Ricoh says it offers printers a chance to extend the range of printing possibilities offered by standard CMYK, white, or clear printing.  Kraszewski adds, “The market continues to demand high quality personalised stand out print and this latest addition to our portfolio will open up a wide number of opportunities.

“This adds a creative edge to every day print possibilities, ranging from business cards and invitations to brochures and catalogues The toner provides a new way of making short or personalised print runs even more effective.”

The toner can be used on existing Ricoh ProC7100x printers that have the fifth toner option. Ricoh’s digital colour printer already provides options of a fifth unit which can print white or a clear spot varnish effect. Printers who have the five unit machine can simply implement in the Neon Yellow by changing the fifth unit as they already do when switching between white and clear. Kraszewski says, “It takes a round 15 minutes, there is no cleaning required. Around 80 per cent of our Pro C7100x customers have the five unit version, so we expect take up of the Neon Yellow to be strong, the cost of an additional developer cartridge is minimal but the opportunities Neon Yellow provides are significant, and will enable printers to sell the feature on value not on cost.

“The Neon Yellow toner will help our clients create more impactful, high quality, vibrant print,” says Kraszewski. “There is a market appetite for high quality personalised stand out print and this latest addition to our portfolio will open up a wide number of opportunities.

“Everyday print possibilities, ranging from business cards and invitations to brochures and catalogues, can now benefit from an inventive twist. The toner provides a new way of making short or personalised print runs even more effective.”

The take up of the fifth unit on the Ricoh Pro C7100x for white and clear printing has been immense. Kraszewski says, “Ricoh is all about providing solutions that enable our customers to optimise the opportunities that are emerging and produce print in the most effective way. The Neon Yellow fulfils that mandate. For a negligible cost Pro C7100x users implementing the Neon Yellow can enter new markets, offer more to their existing markets and differentiate themselves form the competition.”

The white for instance can print on a black stock, thanks to its high opacity, enabling a host of added value applications. Kraszewski says, “The ability of the Pro C7100x to interchange between white, clear and Neon Yellow is key. This gives tremendous flexibility and cost optimization.”

That flexibility extends to substrates, with the Neon Yellow, like the white and clear, not restricted to substrate type. Kraszewski says, “The Pro C7100x printers can print on virtually any substrate, from paper to synthetics, we have even put a wood veneer through and printed successfully on it. The Neon Yellow in common with the other fifth units can print on all these substrates. Synthetics for instance are used extensively in the outdoor activities world, in training applications, and in menus.”

Neon Yellow has been developed by Ricoh in response to customer demand. Kraszewski says, “Ricoh conducts extensive customer research, and one of the areas we wanted to look at was what other functions the fifth unit could be used for, with UV responsive Neon Yellow among those at the top of the list. Now we have delivered it, and printers at PacPrint will be able to see it for themselves.”
