Konica Minolta award finalists named

Konica Minolta has selected the state winners for its 2017 National Specialised Print Awards.

Digital Press will represent NSW; the Victorian winner is The Type Factory; in Queensland it is Design Line; Western Australia, Images on Paper; South Australia, Whoyou Creative.

The Label Print Award winner is Shire Labels.

As an example of the work selected, Whoyou Creative’s piece was a replication of a 102-year old book for The Friends of the State Library of South Australia, which it says required a Konica Minolta Accurio Press 2060, alongside a Heidelberg press, to mirror the appearance of gold dusting with gold ink.

Whoyou Creative says, “Digital and offset work can work together now, where previously digital was not up to scratch. The original book was printed using gold dust, which is no longer used.”

Victorian outfit Purple Press took out last year’s national award, with Cliff Royle, owner, commenting, “Konica Minolta has been a great partner as we have sought to develop innovative print products, it is a tremendous collaboration.”

Konica Minolta says the awards recognise customers that achieve excellence in print with the help of a Konica Minolta digital press system.

The entries were judged by a panel of experts including Kellie Northwood of Two Sides Australia, John Wanless of Bambra Press, Robert Brussolo of Ball & Doggett, and Darrell John of Konica Minolta.

Anthony Lewis, general manager, Specialised Print, Konica Minolta, says, “Konica Minolta is impressed with the calibre of entries we received this year. We would like to congratulate the finalists for their outstanding work, and thank all who took the time to enter. We look forward to celebrating at the National Specialised Print Awards event.”

State finalists will be flown to Sydney to attend the Konica Minolta National Specialised Print Awards event on Thursday, November 16, where the overall winner will be announced and will receive return flights, accommodation and entry to Graph Expo 18 in Chicago, USA.
