Landa Nano presses ready for drupa

Benny Landa says the Nanographic digital inkjet presses that he previewed at the last drupa will be running live demonstrations at this year’s event, and says he will be taking orders for them. Shipping of the presses – which caused a huge stir at the last drupa – will not commence until next year, and it is unclear if this will be for all presses in the range or just certain models. Landa’s Nanograophic presses promise offset quality at offset speeds (13,000sph) but with the digital benefits of no pre-press, no plates, no waste, no makeready and variable data printing. They will print on regular offset stocks. Landa says the pricing will be ‘offset competitive per print’ although what that exactly means has not yet been revealed, we don’t know for instance whether that is press to press, or whether that includes the cost of prepress and plates, which Nano presses do not need. The press line-up has been slimmed down from the seven at drupa 2012 to three this time around, the S10 B1 single sided sheetfed press, the S10P B1 perfecting (duplex) press, and the webfed W10 metre wide flexible packaging press Benny Landa says, ”We expect visitors to our stand at drupa to be completely blown away by the amazing performance of these products – for which we will be taking orders at drupa. Our presses will start shipping in early 2017.”

Landa to take orders for nano at drupa this year

Landa says, “Fourteen years of nanotechnology research has enabled us to make tremendous breakthroughs in the quality, speed and cost of printing. Landa Nanographic Printing Presses produce offset quality, and now at offset speeds and offset-competitive cost per print – on virtually any paper stock.” The Landa Nano presses are behind the original schedule announced at drupa 2012, where some 400 printers paid $10,000 each for a place in the queue to buy a Nano press. However if Landa does come up with the goods all will be forgiven. Sceptics maintain that printers will be taking a risk investing in a volatile new technology that essentially does what an offset press does for the same price. There is no makeready, but today’s B1 offset presses makeready in less than ten minutes. Landa will hold theater presentations five times a day for the entire duration of the exhibition. Reservations are recommended and can be requested in advance at www.landanano.com/drupa, or, subject to availability, may be booked at kiosks on the Landa stand (Hall 9) during the exhibition.
