Letter to the Editor: On-Demand’s certification should not be in question

I’d like to set the record straight regarding a letter to the Editor last week questioning the authenticity of the PSO Certification of On Demand Melbourne.

Following several months of integration by On Demand and CMYKit, on 10 December 2008, On-Demand obtained UGRA PSO Certification following a full and independent on-site audit conducted by Erwin Widmer, worldwide head of UGRA based in Switzerland, and verified by myself, a Certified UGRA Expert.

On Demand’s PSO, conducted on a digital press to ISO 12647 standards and issued by UGRA, should not be in question.

On Demand submitted its Indigo 5000, with associated software and peripheral hardware, for testing under UGRA’s rigorous PSO audit requirements. It met and indeed exceeded the ISO requirements within the PSO certification and was correctly awarded PSO standing.

It is a shame those that challenged the authenticity of On Demand’s PSO did not make the basic enquiry of the UGRA website that displays On Demand at the very top of its listings. In addition, the front English page of the UGRA website has a story and picture about On Demand’s PSO success. A copy of On Demand’s PSO seal No30 is displayed here. Furthermore, a call to GASAA would have clarified the situation.

It is equally a shame that colour standards in Australia are rapidly becoming a political and commercial football by some vendors and industry bodies. GASAA wants printers, and buyers of print, to have an understanding of the benefits of printing to international standards, and to have wider choice of both integrators and auditors.
