M-real footprint scheme launched

Led by its parent group Metsäliitto, the programme will target investment towards projects that produce immediate positive environmental impacts. As part of the programme, all M-real production units will have an energy efficiency system in place by the end of 2009, the company said.

Carbon footprint calculations are available for all M-real’s packaging boards and papers, using a carbon footprint framework developed by CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries).

Calculations cover the manufacturing processes of pulp, board and paper, the transportation of wood raw material, pulp and the finished products, as well as emissions from electricity used in manufacturing.
