Stephen Norgate, managing director of the Melbourne printer, told ProPrint that the colour management stampo was a long time in the making.

“The whole culture of the organisation has to change, it’s massive. But the benefits are just as massive,” he said.

“You achieve this result every day on every job. It’s something we live every day as a culture, and I couldn’t be happier.”

Norgate described the process as “very involved”.

“We always thought we could produce a fantastic job, but it wasn’t consistent,” he said.

“You’ve got to get constants in your pre-press, in your consumables and all your inks; they’ve all got to be locked down. You can’t vary them, it’s all got to be very controlled.”

Noragte said the standard was necessary for the company, which specialises in security printing such as the production of postage stamps and has “extremely fussy clients”.

“We’ve got clients that require it of us. With security work you must keep to certain standards. The clients will simply reject the work if you don’t,” he said.

Norgate praised Heidelberg’s “sterling job” in helping the company reach ISO 12647.

McKellar Renown Press, which is based in the suburb of Carnegie and employs up to 40 staff, also operates as a commercial and specialist printer.
