Hong Kong-based 1010 Printing was the other big winner on the night, picking up three awards, including ‘Book of the Year’ for its work on Serendip.
Imago Australia also picked up three awards, including the ‘Award for Innovation in Publishing and Printing’ for A Picture Book First and Foremost.

McPherson’s sales manager Greg Brown told ProPrint that the ‘Australian Printed Book of the Year’ win was “kudos” for the company’s work in four-colour printing.
“What the award means is that people can have confidence that if they bring quality products to us, they’re going to get a quality result,” he said.
Brown added that the company was particularly pleased to have won awards in sheetfed, digital and webfed categories, after also winning the ‘Webfed – Mono/duotone book/4c, limp bound, no price limit’ and ‘Non-standard – Mono digitally printed book’ awards.
It is the second year in a row the printer has won the ‘Australian Printed Book of the Year’ award, after picking up the same gong at last year’s awards for Fairfax and Roberts catalogue Jewellery.
Galley Club president Michael Schulz said the association and its awards had become a crucial forum for those “who not only know what the difference between Arial and Helvetica is, but who also care”.
The awards were held at Harbour’s Edge and were hosted by radio and television personality James O’Loughlin.
“Some of you are going to win awards, some of you are only going to deserve to win awards, but there is alcohol,” O’Loughlin quipped in his opening address.
Entrants for this year’s awards were also asked to include some of their main production challenges. O’Loughlin was much amused by some of the entrants’ remarks, and read some of these production challenges out on the night, including “producing a good piece of work when the images had been taken by complete amateurs”.
