Melbourne printer eyes 30% boost from 10-colour Heidelberg perfector

The first units are scheduled to arrive at the Melbourne firm on Monday, with the multimillion-dollar press expected to be operational in about a month.

General manager Shant Cullu told ProPrint the XL 106 would boost production efficiency by about 30% and allow TC Printing the flexibility of printing on heavy-grade boards.

He also said the machine’s Prinect Inpress Control would help the 30-staff operation win new clients that demand top-quality production.

“It’s got Inpress Control, which means the computer is doing all the colour correcting itself. Once you punch in your parameters, it doesn’t move away from that, so instead of having a printer with a tired set of eyes, you’ve got a computer scanning every sheet,” he said.

“We always sell on service, which is the most important factor, especially with high-quality and time-critical projects.

“This press is a big investment, but we did our homework and are confident that this is the right machine to meet our clients’ expectations and to allow us to continue to grow.”

The new press has a maximum speed of 18,000 sheets per hour. It will replace a 15-year-old Speedmaster 74 and run in tandem with an eight-colour Speedmaster 102.

Heidelberg told ProPrint it had sold 27 of the XL 106 units in Australia.
