Melbourne printer goes to the “next level of automation” with perfect binder

Matthew Benn, managing director of distributor Fab Equipment, said the sale to Port Melbourne firm Press Print was clinched yesterday.

"They actually bought the 'big brother' of the one we sold off the stand at PacPrint," he told ProPrint.

"This one has an automatic cover feeder and inline creaser for the next level of automation.

"This company bought the second Watkiss system that we sold in Australia and two years later they are continuing their expansion with PUR binding also. They like our machinery and how we do business."

Benn wouldn't disclose the identity of the printer that ordered the other Rigo Lamibind on 24 May.

He said the machine would provide "a huge advantage in quality and extra work" for the buyer.

"There are not many companies out there that actually offer PUR binding, and even the trade binders are only just starting to offer it," he told ProPrint.

Benn said the client liked the closed tank-and-nozzle system. "[That] means that you don’t have to throw the PUR glue out after one to three days like all the rest on the market," he said.

"It also means you don’t have the cost of the cleaning and time of cleaning that it takes every day or three that you use the machine. The PUR lasts in our systems for three weeks without a problem."

Benn said the client was also impressed by the PUR side gluing, which he said was more durable than EVA. "EVA is what every other manufacturer will offer at this price point, or no side gluing at all."

Benn said another reason the customer invested in the machine was because it could "bind the long edge and short edge of A3 down to passport size".

"No-one else can offer these benefits at the $50,000 price point and most of these benefits cannot be bought for under $160,000. Even our fully automatic PUR binder with cover feeder and inline creaser is under $160,000."
