Melbourne printer ‘saving a lot of time and money’ with Xerox iGen4

Director Geoff Lawyer told ProPrint that the business was also reaping productivity gains from using the southern hemisphere’s only large-format iGen4 with an inline booklet maker.

“It is digital – so the proof is the final product. It is clean. Its finished result is on par with industry standard offset printing,” he said.

“Most importantly our customers are satisfied with the finished results – that’s what we like the most. From a productivity point of view, it is phenomenal in that we no longer have to take finished booklets to the bindery to have them finished.”

The iGen4 EXP differs from the original model due to its larger sheet size 364x660mm, a step up from the earlier size of 570×360, which opens up application such as 6pp A4 tri-fold brochures.

It has also been spec’d with the new matt dry ink, which Fuji Xerox said allowed the press to “produce a smooth matt look and feel for photo printing”.

The Melbourne print company’s other main digital press is a Xerox 8000, which has been retained as a back-up. Its two main offset machines are a 10-colour Heidelberg SM 102 and five-colour CD 102.

Lawyer said Complete Colour had “every credential known to man and child”, including ISO 9000, ISO 12647, ISO 14000, FFC certification and PEFC certification.

“A lot of our corporate clients demand it, especially government. In a lot of instances it’s a pre-requisite just to get a ticket to the dance,” he told ProPrint.

One of the main reasons the 40-staff operation opted for the iGen4 was its environmental credentials, said Lawyer.

Complete Colour also considered three other platforms, but opted for the iGen4 because it offered superior productivity, monthly duty cycles, inline finishing and substrate flexibility, he said.

“We can provide very fast turnaround of proofs and… very quick finished applications for clients who have ordered a large offset run but need, say, a hundred for a marketing or sales launch,” he added.
