Mills Styrox makes huge capacity leap with Durst wide-format printer

Managing director Daniel Green told ProPrint the new machine (pictured) will replace an Inca Columbia machine at its Sydney in the northern suburb of Warriewood.

Green said the company purchased the Durst, which will be installed in January, with the aim of cementing a place “as a major player in the Australian signage and retail display market”.

“The Durst 800 HS is our largest investment in digital technology to date, so we wanted to be sure that our decision would be the right one both for our customers and business over the next few years,” he said.

Green said the company went with Durst for three reasons.

“The key benefits of the Durst as we see them are, firstly, quality – effectively the highest quality digital printing available. Secondly, speed – the machine prints up to 216sqm per hour, which in real production terms means we can print around five times the speed of our Inca.

“Thirdly, the Durst is regarded as one of the most reliable machines available, which should allow us meet the toughest lead times that can require round-the-clock printing.”

While Green admitted the new press would create “excess capacity to grow into”, the company is aiming to attract enough work to necessitate buying another machine in the near future.

The company also recently moved its Melbourne operations from the suburb of Clayton to a new site in the suburb of Hallam.

Green told ProPrint that the new 5,000sqm site was a “more appropriate corporate headquarters”.
