Mimaki plans to build brand through regular “mini-trade shows”

Mimaki plans to consolidate its arrival in Australia with one "mini-trade show" per month.

The Japanese wide-format manufacturer opened its new Sydney headquarters yesterday after basing itself out of temporary premises since arriving in Australia in April.

Mimaki is running two days of demonstrations and workshops at its Rydalmere site starting today.

National sales & marketing manager Brad Creighton told ProPrint that Mimaki would aim to hold one "mini-trade show" per month in locations throughout Australia.

He said it was the best way to promote the brand and technology to printers.

"Advertising isn't enough. It's about getting out there and discussing product with the end user so they feel connected with the manufacturer."

Creighton said Mimaki believed in creating new equipment so printers could open up new markets – and that this R&D focus was something that differentiated Mimaki from other manufacturers.

He said sign and graphics would always be Mimaki's main market, but that the big growth areas were industrial products and textiles and apparel.

Creighton also told ProPrint that Mimaki's move to Australia meant printers could feel more confident about servicing.

He added that Mimaki planned to add another technician in the next couple of months.
