Momento Pro to host $25,000 photobook awards

The Sydney photobook specialist has joined forces this year with the Head On Photo Festival after running the awards on its own in 2011 and 2012.

The Head On Momento Photobook Awards is offering $25,000 in prizes. Momento Pro general manager Libby Jeffery said entries should "tell a story through pictures".

"When judging photographic prints, the quality of the photography and composition within the frame is considered," she said.

"Photobooks must also include excellent design outside the frame and across the page, thoughtful sequencing of images or typography, and text to enhance the photos and create a rich visual narrative."

The awards will be judged by experts from the photographic, design and media industries.

Momento Pro's support of the Head On Photo Festival has helped it become "the largest photo festival in Australia", said festival director Moshe Rosenzveig.

"Head On Photo Festival has had a long and successful relationship with Momento," he said.

"With the increasing popularity of photobooks as a photographic print option, we decided to partner on a photobook prize that will showcase and inspire excellent photographic book design."

Entries close on 10 March. The awards night will be held at the State Library of New South Wales on 17 May.
