Darwin Print Centre up for three gongs in 2019 News Media Awards

The News Corp owned Darwin Print Centre, which prints the NT News and The Australian newspapers, is a three-times finalist in the 2019 News Media Awards which acknowledges excellence in news media publishing.

The Darwin Print Centre is listed twice in the Best Run of Press category for its work printing the NT News and The Australian, and is also a potential winner of Print Centre of the Year.

The Yandina Print Centre, which prints the Sunshine Coast Daily in Queensland, received two finalist positions – one for Print Centre of the Year and the other for Best Run of Press, while the Townsville Print Centre (Townsville Bulletin) is also up for Print Centre of the Year.

From a field of 500 entries from New Zealand, Australia and the Asia Pacific region, the awards recognise excellence in news publishing and build on the long heritage of the PANPA Newspaper of the Year Awards and the Advertising and Marketing Awards that have been a highlight of the news publishing calendar since 1969.

Australian Community Media, recently sold by new Fairfax media owners Nine to former Domain exec Antony Catalano, is also up for two awards with its ACM Printing Wodonga (The Border Mail) and Canberra Print Centre (The Canberra Times) also up for a Best Run of Press Award.

NewsMediaWorks chief executive officer Peter Miller, says, “The judging panel has reported seeing a significant uplift in innovation across our news publishers, which has raised the bar once again for the 2019 awards. It was a hotly contested field which resulted in much debate and deliberation among the judges to agree on the finalists and winners.
