Offset Alpine won the NSW Printer of the Year Award and its Gold tally came in at 13, easily beating its six gongs from last year, while Geon bagged four.

Geon’s three Golds at the Victorian PICA Awards, five Golds at the WA PICA Awards and five Golds at the Tasmania PICA Awards see the company’s national tally now standing at 17.

Offset Alpine general manager Craig Dunsford told ProPrint that recognition at the PICA Awards helps maintain the “brand’s reputation for quality”.

“It helps to support our client’s decisions to use Offset Alpine to produce their valuable work and most importantly it provides our wonderful staff with recognition for their hard work and dedication,” he said.

Joe Kowalewski, PIAA national communication and technical services manager, said the event, hosted by TV talent Julia Morris was a success, and put the call out for more entrants into the business categories next year.

“We didn’t get knocked out by the number of entries in the business categories,” he said.

“Running a successful printing business is not just about producing good print, it is about managing your business and the judges are trying to encourage more companies to enter the business awards in future.”

Dunsford also emphasised the importance of the business categories in which Offset Alpine secured three Golds.

“With regard to the Business Awards, I believe they go hand in hand with the recognition for quality,” he said.

“Our consistent commitment to training and education, health and safety and the environment continues to build on the skills and capability of our staff which allows our business to positively evolve.”

The ceremony was held at Sydney’s Sofitel Wentworth last Friday, with almost 400 representatives from the printing industry in attendance.

Other notable winners on the night included Body of Work, which won the Innovative Business Practices Gold and Self Promotion Gold, as well as Watermarx Graphics who won Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the Speciality Printing Category.

Regional NSW printer Tafeda scored Gold in the Embellishment category and did the embellishment work on Special T Print’s Book Printing, Limp Bound Gold winning entry.
