Omnigraphics NZ covers entire bus in ‘scratchies’

The Instant Kiwi Scratchy Bus Road Trip was the brainchild of creative agency Mango Communications, a division of DDB, which approached Omnigraphics with the idea of creating the bus.

The design was printed on a Roland Soljet Pro III XJ-640 on a specialised self-adhesive substrate from Mactac and then matt laminated to prepare it for install.

The printing and laminating process took three days, with a further three days for installation. Omnigraphics said the process took longer than usual because the company had to wrap the bus twice: once to cover the bus in logos, colours and prizes, and then again with the scratchable material.

This material was sourced from Impressions International, which supplied A3-sized scratch panels with a matching, scratchable self-adhesive. These were then manually applied to ensure they covered each and every scratchie completely and evenly.

Omnigraphics NZ business development manager Dave McCarthy said: “I’ve been with Omnigraphics for three months now and it seems like every day we are involved in the most diverse and creative projects imaginable, but just when you think it can’t get much more extreme, along comes a bloody great bus with 20,000 scratch cards on it.

“It’s a good reflection of the creativity that is coming out of the agencies at the moment, and it is extremely rewarding to be a part of turning those concepts in to a reality.”

The bus is currently touring New Zealand as part of a 14-day road trip.
