On Demand to get ISO 12647 certification for new HP Indigo W7200

The Port Melbourne-based digital outfit is in the process of installing the first HP Indigo W7200 in Australia.

The web-fed digital production press, which was launched at Drupa 2008, comprises two Indigo 7000 presses configured inline to hit speeds of up to 240 four-colour A4 pages per minute.

Peddlesden said he was planning to get the PSO certification through colour consultancy CMYKit, which accomplished a world first when it certified On Demand’s Indigo 7000 in 2008.

“We’ll do it with [Jason Hall at CMYKit] again and we will have no trouble. We certified the 7000 before and this is basically two 7000s,” said Peddlesden.

He was adamant that digital could compete with offset in colour consistency. “I think that talk of making a digital ISO 12647 – coming up with separate one – is absolute hogwash. ISO 12647 talks about colour consistency, whether that is coming off a rubber stamp, offset press or digital.”

“What we proved 18 months to two years ago is that Indigo can match the quality of offset. Jagar Sprinting has proved that with its iGen4,” he added.

On Demand invested in the high-speed W7200 to solve “capacity problems”, said Peddlesden.

“We needed to be able to continue our strong growth by giving the customers what they needed, quickly, efficiently and when they wanted it.”

He revealed that the company has had some “new opportunities” but would go into detail on customer wins or volume increases.

Peddlesden also said that On Demand’s acquisition of Document Printing Australia (DPA) was “fully bedded in”.

“It was extremely difficult transaction but it is now fully bedded down and we are going forward from there.”
