Parramatta franchise wins MBE award

The Parramatta store of global franchise Mail Boxes Etc. Australia (MBE) has won the Australian National Franchise of the Year Award, at the company’s Building Business Relationships conference, held at the Novotel Darling Harbour, Sydney.

Charles Batt, owner, MBE Parramatta tells Sprinter, “I felt fantastic after winning. You go to the conference and get to meet and talk to people from over the country. You realise how many good operators there are around the country. To get picked out it is special, so many people could have won the award.

“Everyone within the group is supportive. If you were out there as an independant, you can not always ask your competitors for help. In a franchise group, you support each other. Everyone goes out of their way to help everyone else, and it makes it a comfortable business to be involved in.

“The main reason I go to the conference is to network and learn from other franchisees. The knowledge comes from talking to others, what they’ve done, what mistakes they have made, and how they learn from that.”

In attendance was international guest Alberto Sacchetti, Region Manager, Mail Boxes Etc. – MBE Worldwide and renowned keynote speaker, Mark Carter. Platinum sponsor Konica Minolta’s National Business Development Manager Colin Johnstone presented an inspiring talk.

Clayton Treloar, CEO, MBE Australia, presented the 2018 Australian National Franchise of the Year Award, noting that the centre’s sales volumes were up year-on-year and they consistently follow the MBE system, paying particular attention to the marketing plan. Batt also scooped the 2018 NSW/ACT State Franchise of the Year Award.

Treloar says, “The MBE conference is an excellent opportunity for franchisees to connect on a personal level, share ideas and further their ongoing learning through round table sessions and presentations. Our conferences are highly regarded and well attended by owners. This is a testament to the commitment we make to ensure continued growth for not only the franchisees and their businesses, but also the Australian network.”

Batts notes, “This is my 13th year now with MBE, I have been here for quite a while. You see organisations grow and change. We are fortunate, Clayton Treloar is a fabulous leader, he works well with franchisees. The leader sets the tone of the culture for the whole place, and he is a critical part of the success of the group at large.

“MBE International is the biggest non-food franchise in the world. Getting a general manager across from Italy, to give a perspective on the group internationally puts things in perspective, you can see the bigger picture.

“In Australia I’m the biggest store, but worldwide we’re a small fish in a big pond. I’m looking forward to the international conference in Athens at the end of September, and learn from companies overseas, what they do, what they do differently, and see what we can learn there.”
