Speaking with Australian Printer, Gary Biarinec, who developed the course and has more than 20 years experience in estimating, costing and MIS management, says it is essential for businesses to have a trained estimator. Biarinec says, “The position of a printer’s estimator is an important position within a commercial printing company. “This person needs to have a good technical understanding of the requirements of producing many different types of printed products. The person must understand how to cost such products as well. “This requires accurately estimating the costs of materials and labour required to produce printed products. He says companies need to quote accurately and they can only do that if they know their true costs. Biarinec says, “They do this by learning about the how to’s of building proper hourly rates, quoting materials properly. “A company must know their true costs so as to cover these plus receive some profit so as to be financially successful for the long term. “This course is designed to teach participants the correct methods to prepare and present an accurate quote; develop an understanding of the principles behind hourly rates; have an awareness of the differences between various print materials; understand the concepts of planning and imposing; be able to comprehend and explain estimating standards and be able to proficiently work through actual working estimates.” The course will run from 9am-5pm at Printing Industries’ Auburn office, 25 South Parade, Sydney. Cost is $528 pp (GST Incl) for the PIAA members and $605 for non-members. Gary Biarinec can be contacted for more information and bookings on 0403 315 354 or register your interest here.
