PIAA selects new Board members

Following yesterday’s PIAA Board meeting, interim CEO Bill Healey has confirmed it has filled the four vacant Board positions. Healey says the names will be announced no later than Tuesday, to allow the PIAA time to inform the successful and unsuccessful candidates of its decision. Healey informed Australian Printer that yesterday’s meeting was a success, and he is pleased with the quality of the four people selected. He says, “The Board considered a number of quality candidates and made a selection from those at the meeting, the acting president Kieran May will be notifying the successful four, as well as the unsuccessful candidates of the decision.”

Over recent months, four resignations from the nine person Board rocked the PIAA and have left the positions empty, starting with Susan Heaney’s departure in December, followed by David Leach, Stephen Edwards and Ross Black. The successful candidates will remain on the Board until the end of the year, and they are free to contest the next round of elections scheduled for six months’ time for the new two year terms starting January next year. The search for a new CEO is also narrowing down, Healey says, “A proposed short list of CEO candidates were discussed and selected from over one hundred applications, so there was significant interest in the role.” The PIAA will be interviewing the shortlisted candidates in early April and will make a decision from there. Healey also expresses dismay over the goings on at the PIAA over the past six months and says the Board is keen to move forward, following the new appointments. He says May will be increasing communication with members in the form of newsletter updates in order to do so. He says, “It is disappointing that a lot of the problems that have occurred over the past six to eight months have come from a misunderstanding of what is being done by the PIAA. The president is conscious of this and wants people to have a better understanding of how the association operates.”
