Quality Press hires former Spicers WA boss, launches large-format division

The Perth commercial printer will launch its new division in August, in the same month that it takes delivery of an HP Scitex FB700 flatbed and HP Designjet LX26500 roll-to-roll latex printer.

General manager Graeme Young said Quality Press wanted to be a “one-stop shop” with core production capacity so it could earn higher margins and have greater control over quality and turnarounds.

“We’re diversifying and trying to ensure that we’re relevant to all parties that want printing solutions for any items they require. The market is forever changing. If somebody wants wide-format, we’ve got to have the ability to do that,” he told ProPrint.

Young said the move into large-format had been carefully planned. He said the 65-staff firm had investigated the technology at last year’s Drupa and this year’s PacPrint. He also said Quality Press had constructed a purpose-built warehouse, which will house the new machines and also paper.

Part of the reason Quality Press acquired defunct outfit Pacific Printing in 2009 was so it would gain access to larger premises and have room to expand, he added.

The firm’s new recruit, Graham Cole, has already joined, after recently being made redundant from his previous role as Spicers’ Western Australia boss.

Cole started his new role of strategic marketing & key account manager yesterday. He will be responsible for marketing and promotion, managing existing accounts and winning new accounts.

“Once he became available, we specifically targeted Graham because we know he has a great wealth of knowledge and experience,” said Young.

“We are looking forward to Graham making an important contribution to this re-branding exercise together with launching the large-format operations and being an integral part of our team at Quality Press.”

Managing Director Atish Shah added: “Graham will strengthen the management team with his wealth of experience in the printing industry, and will enhance the strategic positioning of Quality Press Australia-wide as a leading printing solution provider.”
