Satellite Digital eyes variable-data boost with ‘InDesign for web’

Satellite Digital director Paul Culliver said the online document editor was like “InDesign for the web” and would be promoted to clients once training finished in September.

“When that happens I don’t think there will be any variable-data job we won’t be able to tackle on the print side,” he told ProPrint.

Satellite Digital has integrated Chili Publisher into its two Tharstern systems: the Primo MIS and e4print Pro web-to-print service.

Culliver said he discovered Chili Publisher while in Belgium in April and thought it offered the best variable-data capability he’d seen with a web-to-print service.

Chili allows clients to create, price and order their own marketing materials, and merchandise online without violating style guidelines.

Culliver said although it was difficult to master, it was “already making things easier” for staff and clients by automating the creative process.

“It makes things very, very simple once you know the program,” he said.

Tharstern ANZ managing director Tresta Keegan told ProPrint that Satellite Digital now had a “feature-rich, enterprise online procurement portal… with true ‘web to workflow’ automation”.

“The release of e4print with Chili should be of particular interest to printers of all sizes and work-types because it’s almost a standard now for printers to interact with customers online – but those with true, value-added solutions maximise the likelihood of making good money from it,” she said.
