Scott Print acquires Fineline

WA based Scott Print has acquired East Perth digital outfit Fineline to boost its digital presence as part of its growth strategy.

John Scott, joint managing director at Scott Print says, “We have four pillars of growth that Scott Print joint managing director Tim Scott and I are working on; offset, graphic design, digital, and large format. We have done our digital acquisition, and are now looking into an offset acquisition and large format as well. We might even buy an ad agency or a small agency.”

Scott Print has brought over all 14 staff from the business. Owner of the 26 year old Fineline David Roxby is staying on as a consultant for the changeover, with Gavin Walker, the manager, remaining in his position.

The Fineline acquisition adds high-speed mono digital capabilities to Scott Print, as the Perth printer looks to diversify its business. Scott Print will continue to operate the business under the Fineline name for now, with a view to incorporating it under the Scott Print name in future, says John Scott, joint managing director, Scott Print.

Scott says, “The main capability is the high-speed mono work, so school diaries and exam papers, using Fuji Xerox equipment, the 2800 Nuvera and the 2000. They are good for large volume mono work, and we have gained a good client base.

“The deal was finalised early October, so we are in our fourth week, and it is going well. From day one we were invoicing to Scott Print, and everything is networked together into the one infrastructure.

“Buying Fineline changed our mix of offset to digital from 75/25 to 60/40. It is strategic and purposeful to do that.

“The offset acquisition would be a smaller player, someone with three to five million dollar  turnover.

“We are looking into a heavy investment in nine months time in the digital sphere.”

After the acquisition Scott Print’s equipment includes a Fuji Xerox PC1000, two Fuji Xerox 1000i’s 5 Colours, a Xerox Nuvera 200, a Xerox Nuvera 288, a Docutech 125F and a Fuji Xerox PC700, and isd now WA’s biggest Fuji Xerox customer.

Scott Print now has 64 employees.
