Snap expands outside print and into SME marketing

The company has launched an online printing tool and marketing division as part of plans to grow its revenues by 16% over the next three years.

Snap said at its national convention in Sydney today that the expansion comes as competition from Asia and online publishing hampers the profitability of the Australian printing industry. The administration of Worldwide Online was described as one of “a series of blows” suffered by the industry in 2010.

Snap chief executive Grant Vernon (pictured) said: “It would be short-sighted to rely solely on print if Snap is to remain a strong business.”

“Our customers expressed a desire for more than just printing – for someone to help them create an overall marketing plan and the implement it, whether that be designing and printing brochures or creating a new website.”

The online publishing tool, which is called Snap Promote, will go live on 1 September. The service is a collaboration with publishing software develop Quark, and features a range of professionally-designed templates for business cards, mailers, tri-fold brochures and other marketing materials.

Vernon said the new tool, which also allows the templates to be customised with downloadable software available on the Snap website, is targeted at SMEs.

“Professional design and printing is so often a barrier for small business owners. Snap Promote gives small businesses the ability to create and print high quality marketing material easily and affordably,” he said.

Snap also announced it is expanding its ‘Level 2’ service across its entire range of franchises.

The service is also designed to help SMEs market themselves across several media.

“In the past, the only options small businesses had to market themselves were hard-copy brochures and maybe an advertisement in the local paper,” Vernon said.

“Today they are able to reach a much larger audience through websites, electronic newsletters and e-mail marketing campaigns. We saw that there was no Australia-wide brand that offered these services to small to medium sized businesses – a gap now filled by Snap Level 2.”

61 of Snap’s 147 franchises already offer Level 2 services, which will now be rolled out nationwide.

The company is also targeting 200 franchises in operation nationwide by 2013.
