Soar wins mega-council contract with on-demand strategy

The company will produce Auckland Council's posters, pamphlets, letterheads, business cards, envelopes, temporary signage and regular publications. It will also provide warehousing and distribution services.

The contract, which starts in mid-2013, will emphasise on-demand services over longer runs.

Managing director Fred Soar said: "We aim to print a lot more items on a cost-effective, print-on-demand basis using our online system, which will provide savings for the council and its ratepayers by reducing the size of print runs and removing the risk of unused material becoming obsolete."

Auckland Council reportedly has a NZ$3 billion ($2.4 billion) budget and 8,000 staff.

Procurement manager Peter Blackwell said Soar Printing would "deliver cost-effectiveness for ratepayers" and praised its "strong record of environmental sustainability".

Soar has ISO and FSC environmental certification and is also a sponsor of New Zealand's Kauri Dieback Management Programme.
