Sony Online Entertainment to let gamers print on demand

The technology platform supplied by HP will be available to players of SOE’s EverQuest, EverQuest II and Free Realms games using the in-game Station Cash currency system, which will allow the purchase of on-demand print without leaving the gaming environment, the first service of its kind.

Initially SOE will limit the artwork available to limited edition pieces for the service. It will expand this in the future to allow gamers to customise their prints and include their own avatars, screenshots and artwork.

“This unique service allows players to create their cards during an online play session then, through HP’s state-of-the-art print-on-demand service, we’re able to provide ‘offline’ access to online content to create a whole new interactive experience,” said Christopher Sturr, director of Corporate Strategy at Sony Online Entertainment. “We’ve been impressed with the customisation and personalisation capabilities offered by HP.”
