The certification process was managed by Kayell Australia and leveraged GMG’s RapidCheck and PrintControl software.

Kayell’s Luke Wooldridge supervised the ISO programme, starting off by using the RapidCheck colour wedge to assess the press conditions on the printer’s Heidelberg and Akiyama ten-colour machines, as well as their other multi-colour presses.

This was followed by linearisation of the printer’s Fuji Boxer platesetter to allow the PressControl test form to be printed without any applied curves.

The certification process then saw SOS and Wooldridge print and measure ink aim points using densitometry and spectrophotometry to within the ISO gamut and specifications. Dot gain patches were produced, read and matched to the ISO dotgain curve, while the CTP platemaker, rip, proofer and monitors were all calibrated using the compliant data.

SOS director Michael Schulz (pictured) said the certification had been a “very worthwhile experience for SOS”.

“As more of the larger print buyers are asking for ISO compliance of their printers, we felt it was an important step to take both for our current and future customers,” he said.

Schulz added that the certification has led to “immediate improvements across all departments” at the company.

“We are delighted at not just achieving ISO compliance, but also the positive effect the process has had on our organisation, people and customer service. We have even managed to reduce waste and increase productivity,” he said.

The company will continue to be audited by Kayell every six months, as per the ISO regulations.
