Textile pushes Starleaton up 23 per cent

Digital print supplier Starleaton has boosted revenue by 23 per cent in a year on the back of heavy investments in textile printing.

General manager Ben Eaton says the company is growing due to the well-performing Australian economy.

“People are born to complain and say that the economy is not good. But we have experienced a rise in sales and revenue,” he says.

“Some may say that this might be just us who is experiencing the growth but I have spoken to our competitors and they are also experiencing a busy period.”

Eaton says Starleaton was one of the first to introduce textiles into the market, which has finally accepted the product and is proving to be a good investment for the company.

“We started bringing textiles into the market 10 to 12 years ago. It has been a long time coming in Australia,” he says.

“Finally in the last 18-months we have seen a surge in textiles printings and that is due to a few factors.

“The technology for one was not compatible for textile printing a few years ago; it was a very laborious job to print on fabric, and people in Australia, unlike Europe, don’t want to pay too much for advertising.

“So once the technology caught up we have seen textiles become a big growth area.”

Eaton says the key to ensuring a long-standing business like Starleaton is successful is by recruiting new and younger people.

“I have been lucky to be in the company as a second generation member but it is critical to bring new blood to the business because they are hungry.

“Mix the hunger with the knowledge of the company owners and managers, and you have an unbeatable team of experts and energetic, driven individuals.”

Eaton says the company has also ensured it doesn’t become ‘like a supermarket’ and always strives for brand recognition.

“A lot of our competitors are like supermarkets, where they offer similar products by different manufacturers,” Eaton says.

“We have always believed in going in the market with one brand and ensuring that we sell and promote that brand and grow it.

“We are also known for our stock storage capacity. Starleaton is never out of stock as we have three warehouses full of stock, which shocks people when they hear about it.”
