An updated constitution, recognising modern terminology and the role of electronic communication, was adopted during the AGM.

Presentations on KiwiSaver, employment issues, cash flow management, wide-format colour management, digital signage, IT protection and workplace safety were made during the conference. Among the 85 delegates in attendance were Australian Sign & Graphics Association president David Hay and general manager Michael Punch.

Although on crutches with a snapped achilles tendon, Dame Susan Devoy MC’d the awards evening. From the 366 entries judged, a total of 73 gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded.

Among gold medal winners were Admark Visual Imaging, BB Signs, David Blacke Signs, Design Signs, Eye Candy Creations, Grant Elliotte Signwork (two), Peak Display Corp, Power Signs Nelson, Quaystone Signs (two), Sign-A-Rama, Signtech the Signmasters, Signwise Auckland, Signwise Christchurch (two), Signwise Wellington, Speedy Signs Dunedin and Wilsigns.

NZSDA secretary Brian Fairchild said the event was “very successful. It was the first time we had been up in Northland that I’m aware of and a very small team of people up there put it together and did a very good job,” he told ProPrint.

Next year’s event is to be hosted in Hawke’s Bay.
