Wellcom snatches Coles from Ergo

Wellcom has followed up a huge year of growth by winning two huge print management contracts with retailers Coles and Target.

The Coles deal, which could be worth up to $25m a year, snatches one of the biggest print contracts in Australia from Ergo Asia’s grasp after it went out to tender this year.

Ergo won the contract from Blue Star in 2011, which at the time was said to account for half of the supermarket giant’s $50m print spend.

It comprises the ‘supermarket marketing’ component of Coles’ print requirements, including point-of-sale material and warehousing.

Wellcom would not give details on either of the contracts but did say they were secured in the past few months with production starting on Target in June and Coles in August. Wellcom has about 100 Australian printers on its panel.

The company will also handle graphic design for Coles and photography and video for Target, according to its annual report.

The contracts will add to Wellcom’s $53m Australasian sales, up 12.1 per cent in the 2015 financial year.
