Arthur Frost, the founder of Lamson Group, and a highly respected senior leader in print was crowned the inaugural Industry Achievement Award winner at the ProPrint Awards in Sydney on Friday November 26.

This award was introduced this year as part of the broader ProPrint Awards to honour an Outstanding Achiever in Print – someone who has dedicated their life to the industry.

During Frost’s 55-year career in print he achieved many incredible milestones including being the first to develop pre-encoded magnetic strip ticketing in Australia in 1988.

The ticketing printing technology was soon taken up by Adelaide’s multi-functional transport system and was even inspected by an Olympic Games delegation from Seoul.

Frost came from extremely humble beginnings and as a young boy made a living selling paper and pens on the streets of Sydney. The once-aspiring bookmaker went on to lead one of Australia’s most successful print companies which continues to be run today by his son, Rodney Frost.

Frost was unable to travel to the Awards due to issues with the Queensland border, but his son, Rodney, was on hand to accept the award in his place.

An industry panel comprising last year’s Power 50 Top Ten and Platinum Sponsor Matt Ashman managing director of Durst Oceania made the final call on who should win this exclusive award this year from a strong field.

Alistair Rathbone of Orafol announced Arthur to be the winner, with a short video played in which Arthur reflected on his life in the industry and paid respect to how much it has given him, from strong and continuing friendships, to lots of funny stories to tell about all those ‘long lunches’.
