Digitalisation high on Koenig & Bauer’s agenda at drupa 2021

If there is one thing that COVID-19 has stressed upon companies, it is the importance of digital in continuing business. And that’s the direction Koenig & Bauer is heading as it gears up for drupa 2021.

In its digital presentation, Koenig & Bauer LIVE, the company’s CEO Klaus Bolza-Schünemann provided virtual attendees with a sneak preview on what can be expected from the company at drupa 2021.

According to Bolza-Schünemann, this revolves around digitisation.

“Koenig & Bauer will be presented on a 4,400 square metre booth and will show what we have in store, along with our joint venture partner, Durst. We have many new products upcoming, especially for the folding cartons and the packaging industry, and we’re looking forward to welcoming as many visitors as possible,” he said.

“I’m convinced we will have the same numbers as in 2016,” he said, when asked his views about if the effects of COVID-19 will prevent attendees from attending the trade show in April.

“It will change affairs – maybe digital, virtual or augmented reality will have a greater play, but I’m a firm believer that personal contact between customers and suppliers is absolutely essential and is the driver for the industry.”

Koenig & Bauer sheetfed segment director and chief digital officer Ralf Sammeck provided an update on the company’s new customer experience centre in Radebeul.

“We want to be your first choice in not only printing presses, but also post-press. So, in our new customer experience centre for packaging, we can show you the whole line of production – from printing to die cutting to gluing,” he mentioned.

“And with our workflow solution, we can show you how transparent our workflow is and how much more productivity you can get out of our Koenig & Bauer machines. We have invested in 3,000 square metres of hall, where we can show you production in real-time.

“We will show you new equipment – the Rapida 76, Rapida 145, and the Rapida RDC 106 – and our new digital printing press for the folding cartons industry as a hybrid and digital machine. We will also showcase post-press machines like the 106 K Pro flat-bed die cutter.

“Our vision is to be your best partner for the whole production line.”

He added that the company is working towards providing more transparency in the production line when it comes to digitalisation and more details about that direction will be made available in the coming days of Koenig & Bauer LIVE.

“We want to ensure that you get the most out of your data in the production line and with all of this data, we can offer to you several service offerings to make you more productive and profitable,” Sammeck added.

The Koenig & Bauer LIVE event will run weekdays from June 16 to 25 and will include daily 20-minute information sessions with updates from senior company executives. To register for the event, please visit koenig-bauer.com/en/live.

The sessions are scheduled for 6pm and midnight (AEST).
