Fotobase co-owner Randell Hodgkinson said the 15-staff digital printer controls about 60% of the Adelaide real estate market.
He said the Watkiss Digital Finishing System stood out over its rivals, partly due to the reliability and speed of its square-fold bookletmaker.
“Real estate agents are always getting property guides done at a higher level than they used to. We got booklets done on a few different machines as a test, and it gave cleaner, crisper folds, better trimming with less chipping, and reliability with celloglazed covers, “ he told the PacPrint Daily.
The Watkiss system is part of an $800,000 investment in new machinery that Fotobase made in May, said Hodgkinson. He said Fotobase needed the new machinery to cope with a 40% growth spurt in 2012-13.
“We’ve probably gone from running at full capacity to now running at 50-60%. We’ve thought, ‘let’s spend a bit of money now and give us room to be able to grow into what we do’.”
FAB Equipment managing director Matthew Benn said Fotobase had acquired a market-leading finishing system.
“The reason why Fotobase bought it is because this is the only machine on the market that can do what they want it to do.
“We can feed thicker cover stock than anyone else. It also finishes in a much nicer way than most machines in the market,” he told the PacPrint Daily.
