According to the German business newspaper Handelsblatt, the press manufacturer is in dialogue with a range of companies, including Kodak.
A company source is quoted in the daily paper saying: “Digital printing is becoming interesting again as a rather stable business. Heidelberg is looking for a partner and has looked at, among others, Nexpress.”
In 2004, Kodak bought Heidelberg’s 50% stake in the Nexpress platform for a nominal $1. However, Kodak was to pay up to £85m based on sales up to the end of 2005.
Heidelberg Australia and New Zealand (HAN) managing director Andy Vels Jensen and Kodak Australasia declined to comment on the report.
Last month, HAN and Kodak Australasia signed an agreement which will see HAN become the exclusive distributor of Kodak consumables, workflow software, and CTP equipment in the commercial sheetfed market.
