Ferrostaal Australia will use PacPrint as its springboard into the digital printing sector. The company was appointed as the distributor for French-made MGI digital presses in December 2012 and it will be showing off the flagship model, the MGI Meteor DP8700XL digital press.
According to Ferrostaal, the MGI press has already attracted local interest as a result of Drupa 2012. Prospective customers have been waiting to trial stocks in the machine. The first installation went into Kosdown Printing in Melbourne.
The MGI press does not have a click charge, and is capable of printing on multiple substrates such as PVC for credit cards, gift cards and loyalty cards. The design, construction and operation of the DP8700XL are modelled on offset technology. The machine looks more like an offset machine than a digital press, and the consumables – toner, fuser and transfer belt – can be replaced by the operator.
Ferrostaal says the MGI range nicely complements its agency for Komori offset presses; it means the suppliers can now offer its existing offset press customers a product to perform variable print on numerous substrates and envelopes.
But it won’t just be digital on the Ferrostaal stand. It will also launch the Morgana DigiBook 450 PUR binder at PacPrint13. Just arrived in Australia, three orders for it are pending installations. The DigiBook overcomes the problems usually associated with PUR binding of digitally printed stock, which has long been difficult due to the oils used in the printing process.
