PrintBound merges with Final Dimensions and buys first digital press

POS specialist Final Dimensions is currently relocating across Melbourne’s south-east, moving from its Dandenong South site into PrintBound’s plant in Oakleigh South.

The company brings four staff, taking PrintBound’s total headcount to around 50. It also brings display machinery, including an automated diecutting machine and an AutoCAD plotter.

These will be joined by a new Fuji Xerox 1000 on the floor at PrintBound, marking the company’s first foray into digital.

PrintBound managing director Mauro Mattarucco told ProPrint it was all about taking a wider offering to the market.

“We knew that our customers had digital work and we didn’t want to see their work going elsewhere. We want to capture all the work for the clients we already have,” said Mattarucco.

He had been investigating the digital space for the past few years, and was particularly impressed with the Xerox 1000’s clear dry ink. “Also, Fuji Xerox’s environmental story. That fitted in with our culture.”

PrintBound has had an environmental management system in place for the past eight years.

Mattarucco said the new machine meant PrintBound would have “another offering to the business world”.

“We have done a few things quietly to increase our offering. One of them is graphic design and web design. We have done that by setting up an ImageBound.

“From next week onwards we will have the capacity to do POS and displays [by] merging Final Dimensions into our business,” added Mattarucco.

Orchard said the POS and display market would open up strong opportunities for PrintBound.

“You can go from a $3,000 print job to a $30,000 unit,” he said.

He added that he had been looking forward to getting back into offset since leaving Blue Star to start Final Dimensions two years ago.

“What a sell. Design, photography, offset, some finishing and now POS – it’s a great offering. And I like selling print, so I’m looking forward to that aspect too,” he said.

Orchard was part of the team that sold offset company Print In Vision to Blue Star in 2006.
