Printers and suppliers get behind “paper comeback” at Sydney festival

Some of the world’s top paper artists will demonstrate their talents at the week-long A4 Paper Festival, which is free to attend and runs until Sunday at Angel Place in the city.

Event organiser Lisa Loxley said: “I come from four generations of printers. I love printing and paper and this festival really shows the inspiring tactile qualities of such an important medium,” she said.

“For printers, the festival serves as an opportunity for them to get involved with the exciting and innovative ways paper can be used.”

Loxley added that the festival was the first of its kind in Australia and had already been a success with a wide variety of visitors.

KW Doggett is the top sponsor of the event and will be a hosting creative paper workshop at its stand.

National sales manager Nathan Doggett was on hand last night at an event for the design community, where he was joined  by the team from ArjoWiggins, which is relaunching its prestigious Conqueror stock in Australia.

Nevi Laketa, communications manager at KW Doggett, told ProPrint the paper merchant was enthusiastic about getting behind the event.

“We love being part of the communities that we work within and it’s a great privilege for us to be out here interacting with printers and designers.”

Digitalpress, based in the Sydney suburb of Surry Hills, is also getting behind the event. Owner Theo Pettaras is lined up to give a presentation at the festival at 6pm this evening.

“Our philosophy is that if someone is willing to spend money on print in this age of social media, they don’t just want it look good, they want it to feel good as well,” he said.

The festival runs until Sunday with highlights including workshops with renowned “Paper Professor” Yoshinobu Miyamoto. Click here for more information.
