Vistaprint opens Australian office and production hub

The company announced in its 2010 financial year results that it had completed construction on its manufacturing facility in the suburb of Deer Park during the last quarter. The facility becomes one of three manufacturing hubs for Vistaprint, joining sites in Canada and the Netherlands.

Construction of the Deer Park hub is part of the creation of a “business unit” for the Asia-Pacific region, which Vistaprint Asia Pacific managing director Mike Ewing describes as “a rapidly-growing market for the company”.

The Asia Pacific business unit also consists of a marketing office in Sydney, and marks Vistaprint’s first physical presence in the region. The Sydney office will be used to co-ordinate Vistaprint’s marketing efforts in the Australian, New Zealand, and Japanese markets, for which it has already created localised websites.

Previously, the Asia Pacific market was served by the company’s European manufacturing facility in Venlo, the Netherlands (pictured).

Ewing said the establishment of Vistaprint’s Australian operations would help the company “improve service to its existing customer base in the region with quicker delivery times”.

“It also offers the company the ability to tap into a talented employee market that will be important to the company’s continued growth,” he added.

Vistaprint operates a cut-price business model targeting SMEs, with an average order value including shipping of US$34.56. The printer uses a web-based ordering system and specialises in the production of business cards, postcards, banners, stationery, and promotional material.

The company recorded revenues for the 2009/10 financial year of US$670m, up 30% on the year before. This resulted in a net income of US$67.7m, a year-on-year increase of 19%.

The company said that it added 6.4 million new customers worldwide over the last financial year.

Vistaprint employs roughly 2,200 people, operates 22 localised websites globally, and delivers to more than 120 countries.
