Aussie news flies high at INMA

News Corp won big as Australian news publishers walked away with a swag of medals and honourable mentions at the INMA (International News Media Association) 2019 Global Media Awards held recently in New York.

With 13 awards or honourable mentions, News Corp’s tally included two first place medals for best marketing solution for an advertising client for Mars and best use of data analytics for Verity. Nine brought back won three awards, among them a first place medal for best execution of print advertising for the South Australian Motor Accident Commission.

The competition received 664 entries from 165 news media companies in 34 countries. Of the 194 finalists Australia had the fourth highest number.

Peter Miler, chief executive officer of NewsMediaWorks, says the awards reflect the creative ways in which news media owners around the world creatively attack opportunities and challenges. He says, “These included initiatives and programmes that go to lifting readership, leveraging engagement and recognising the increasing importance of data in marketing and revenue projects.”

Earl J. Wilkinson, executive director and chief executive of INMA, says, “The winning entries in this year’s Global Media Awards show a media industry growing comfortable with new ways of telling stories for readers and advertisers.

“We have transitioned from the surprise of transformation to breakthrough creativity in the new ecosystems. INMA is privileged to play a role in surfacing these best practices from media companies worldwide."
