Avon closes cutter deal at Visual Impact

Avon Graphics is following up its triple wide-format printer investment with a new cutter to power up its growing outdoor business, closing the deal last night at the Visual Impact expo.

Avon sales manager Tate Hone says the Océ ProCut 2500L is the best cutter on the market and after a series of demonstrations and showroom tests the company has decided to make the buy face-to-face at the wide format trade show.

“It’s the Rolls Royce of wide format cutters, it can run roll-to-roll and work with a variety of substrates. It is bigger than we need right now, but gives us great flexibility into the future,” he says.

With Avon’s recently installed Mimaki JV300-160 roll fed eco-solvent and two Mimaki JFX500-2131 LED UV flatbed printers joining its existing Vutek QS2000, Hone says a second cutter was needed to handle the huge capacity increase.

“We have really seen the need to add a second cutter in the past few months as our business is growing,” he says.

Hone says the trade-only outfit is 11 months into its wide format expansion and has added seven new staff as business pours in from existing offset and digital clients transferring their wide format work to Avon.

“Having trust with our customers means they are happy to send that work to us,” he says.

“Wide format is a growth market and we can invest in the heavy equipment so we can do the heavy lifting and even deliver product to clients if need be.

“Everyone here is fired up and happy to be learning new things.”

Avon will also switch its three rip systems to Onyx Thrive, which it bought from Canon along with the ProCut. Hone says it will unify Avon’s systems into one improved platform.
