Océ looks to future of print with RMIT

The vendor handed out several awards at the RMIT School of Graphic Design’s recent graduation ceremony at Brunswick Town Hall, where Caitlin Caldwell won the Gold Folio award, Kayla Cassar picked up the Silver Folio gong, and Emma Shaw took the Most Professional Student award.

In the weeks leading up to the event, Océ assisted RMIT students by giving them access to the manufacturer’s St Kilda Road showroom.

Students were got experience with both monochrome and colour equipment, including the CS665 Pro press. Océ staff oversaw the work to help get the best results.

Océ’s state sales executive for education Andrew Cocker (pictured, far right), who helped co-ordinate the initiative, told ProPrint: “These are the graphic arts professionals of the future so it’s important they obtain some hands-on experience with state-of-the-art digital printing systems and have the chance to ask questions about colour imaging and output.”

The students were also given guidance on the best media to use for their printing needs.

RMIT graphics training educator Meredith Chesney (pictured, 3rd from right) said: “The students found it a terrific experience and, equally importantly, they were encouraged to work together in developing the work, which reinforced the teamwork ethic they will find in the workplace.”
