One of world’s first supersized HP Indigos installed at Melbourne printer

In January, the Melbourne printer moved from the Lilydale site it had occupied for 25 years to premises in Dandenong South, said director Aldo Burcheri.

"When we made the decision that we wanted to move, it was because we weren't confident of bringing [the 10000] into our Lilydale facility, because of the way the workflow was structured. We felt that having something purpose-built would streamline our workflow a lot more," he told ProPrint.

The Indigo arrived on 18 March and started production on 21 March.

"We installed the HP Indigo 10000 so that we could operate more effectively in the shorter-run market for catalogues, point-of-sale, boutique packaging and A2 size prints, where there are few or no economically viable situations," said Burcheri.

"We are traditionally a high-quality offset printing house, and the new installation offers the quality of offset printing with the fast turnaround time and customisation options of digital printing."

Burcheri said the 10000's speed, quality and environmental credentials had already gotten customers talking. "People see the potential and the capability of the bigger sheet size in the market where there's been nothing like it before."

Courtney Colour went digital in 2009 with an Indigo 5500. Burcheri said the 5500 would retain its current workload, and that the 10000 would probably take on some jobs that are currently being produced by a Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74.

The 29-staff firm ordered the 10000 just after Drupa, despite never laying eyes on the machine, said Burcheri.

"At the end of the day, it was the confidence we had in the HP brand and our experience with our existing Indigo 5500 that gave us the confidence it could do what it said it could," he told ProPrint.

"With the HP network, we've spoken to a lot of beta sites, and all the news is positive. The machine came in with miles on the clock, which gave us the confidence that it was already tested."

Distributor Currie Group said it was thrilled to have delivered another Indigo to Courtney Colour.

"Since installing its first HP Indigo press, Courtney has challenged and developed its business model in order to grow its digital business and increase its unique product offering," said sales and marketing director Phillip Rennell.

"The additional productivity and versatility of the HP Indigo 10000 will enable Courtney to further develop its business with products and services made possible by the B2 format."
